Construction of Lycheng Company's Chinese Sturgeon Greenhouse Breeding Base Pool was almost completed by Jan 21, Karamay Daily reported.

According to Yu Zhi, head of the project, the sturgeon is both attractive and useful. The breeding base will introduce 200,000 Chinese sturgeons after Spring Festival. When the fish are available for marketing, the expected annual output will reach 7.5 million yuan ($1.14 million).

As the wild Chinese sturgeon is one of the first national protected species, it is illegal to sell them. However, the hybrid Chinese sturgeon can be cultured. Lvcheng Company jointly invested 20 million yuan with the Huiyuan aquaculture farmers' professional cooperative to build the first Chinese Sturgeon Greenhouse Breeding Base in Karamay.

Yu said that the sturgeon is relatively sensitive to its growing environment. The company has accordingly invested more than 2 million yuan to build professional water treatment systems. The Pulin Ecological Greenhouse Pool is now suitable to sturgeon cultivation.

Caviar, which is made from sturgeon, is said to be one of the world's three major flavors. Therefore, the Lvcheng Company plans to invest in sturgeon caviar and shrimp paste production to form a special aquaculture industry chain in Karamay to develop this emerging industry.
